The CASA Caribbean Officiating Programme for Squash (COPS) is a certification programme developed by CASA for Caribbean referees with significant technical assistance from Squash Canada. It has now certified over 110 referees from nine Caribbean countries since it was first launched in August 2005. Mr. Grant Currie, a National Referee and National Examiner from Calgary, Canada was the appointed Tournament Referee at the 2015 Senior CASA Championships in Grand Cayman and carried out assessments on a few Caribbean referees whilst helping to coordinate the officiating at that event.
CASA will continue to try in 2016 and beyond to ensure that at each Senior CASA Championships a Referee certification course is held and referee assessments are carried out so that certified referees across the Caribbean region have an opportunity to be assessed under high level match play conditions.
Four Caribbean squash officials [Craig Archer (BAR), Alwyn Callender (GUY), Orson Simpson (BAR) and Marlon White (BAR)] all officiated at the Pan American Games in Toronto 2015. All of them are graduates of the COPS referee programme. Both Craig Archer and Orson Simpson are National Level Referees who can deliver referee certification courses across the Caribbean upon request and can also perform assessments on certified Caribbean referees during local and Caribbean level tournaments. Kindly contact Craig Archer for further details as needed.
